I found myself looking for a shot in my Lightroom catalogues that I was thinking of uploading to my new 500px account. It was one of my Street Photography shots and wasn’t in the catalogue I’d expected it to be in. Instead I found it in the Studio catalogue, I’d taken it the same day as my shoot with Abi in a pink dress from Lady Pearls and had just imported everything new on the storage card.
It had taken a bit of hunting and shouldn’t have. Why? I have a number of images with no Keywords added, and this was one of them. I made a commitment to myself to use my spare time on train journeys to sort this out. But which ones needed fixing?
Lightroom filters to the rescue!
I dislike autumn and winter. Not for the cold and lack of green on the trees but what it does to the colours being worn by the vast majority of the public. The bright summer colours vanish and out come the dark colours, greys and blacks. So I was delighted to see the Warehouse collection on show at Canary Wharf this past weekend – Autumnal berry colours and a nice solid blue.
Zara also made an impression with their collection largely based on black, white, tan and mustard yellows. The latter looks to be quite popular with a number of fashion houses and their customers judging by the number of people I see out and about in tops, trousers or accessories in that colour.
Aquascutum had a great top and jacket on a model that made me think of Daniel Craig. I’m after a smart casual style makeover myself so will check them out and start moving a stack of tshirts in the direction of charity shops.
And smarten up.
No photo for this post. Instead I’ll have to paint a picture with words. I’m out shopping with the family, my wife and daughter are getting dresses for a wedding. It’s a fact of life. No matter how much a woman has in her wardrobe a wedding is the perfect reason for the next addition 🙂 As a fan of fashion I can’t blame them and the A line dress Denise is checking out looks brilliant on her.
While in one store a young lady came in with her mother, both were exceptionally well dressed. She had great style with a black sleeved top with white collar, above the knee tan a-line shirt made out some heavy looking material and designer tights, the new trend where they’re woven in different densities to add patterns. These were made to look like vintage seamed stockings, but with what I guess was the designers signature part way down. Red shoes with a high but chunky heal finished the ensemble. I complimented her on her style and learnt that she’s going to be a fashion student at university.
I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to intercept two large objects in the last month:
The lovely red leather chair I’m sat in, not that unlike the one Morpheus sat in when asking Neo to pick between the red and blue pills in the Matrix. It’s soon to head to the studio.
And a locked camera case. The case turned out to have kit in it! It sat at the local police station for a month in case it was stolen. Nobody claimed it, so now it’s mine to store lighting kit in. I’ve switched the foam over, but need more to do a second layout that’s a bit more space efficient and include some gear that wasn’t originally going to be kept in there. Anyone know a good supplier?
The queue for the taxi rank was insane so I thought I’d jump on a bus. Never again! The trip took far too long in slow moving traffic. On the trip there were two stunning women, one applying flawless makeup while the bus wobbled and bounced around, how she avoided drawing lines across her face with the various makeups was beyond me. The other was in a dress that would make even Jessica Rabbit envious. Not wanting to appear as a GWC I concentrated on editing the shot of Jess. Hold on, stunning makeup alone is not reason enough to ask for a shot? The team at FACEON would be disappointed. I need to reevaluate my tick list for my Strangers photography!
Thanks to an elderly man that boarded I moved further back in the bus in order to give him the priority seat. On one of the unoccupied seats was a copy of Stylist magazine.
Inside was Jade’s new advert for Revlon. The matt undersaturated printing wont do her and Revlon full justice. Congrats on winning Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model Jade!
So here’s to Jess, Jade, Models, Makeup Artists and anyone rocking makeup, especially those applying it under less than ideal conditions! You all made the mad trip in more tolerable.
I’ve just found that SMS messages are not getting through to the number I list on my cards and this site. If you’ve been trying to get in touch please drop me an email via the address on my card or use the contact form (link at top of this page) or phone.
Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience caused.
I have a fashion / situation image I still need to get out of my head. It’s been there for a long while, finding the right location has been the road block.
I need a street.
Preferably now pedestrian only, clean, photo worthy, preferably with shops that use the path in front (e.g. coffee shop), a bit like Leadenhall Market in London, but managed by people that can be bothered to reply to requests for info.
If you know such a place, or someone that might please get in touch!
On the way to the train I spotted the young lady here with a helmet hanging from her back pack and amazing longboard. A cool prop for a strangers shot. She must be quite a sight to behold as she surfs her way across London in the evenings. I didn’t catch her name, after a short while chatting about the board, the shots and handing her my card she was off like a flash.
Thanks to the autumn evenings getting dark so fast it was time to break out the flash. With all the orange lights on around the station front I felt the full CTO filter and shooting with white balance set to tungsten would produce a better image.
